Legacy Update
You can get most updates through Legacy Update, which will replace the official Windows Update functionality. You may need version 1.7.1 of their installer if you're having issues with GDI+ (see below).

Microsoft Security Essentials
While Legacy Update will attempt to install Microsoft Security Essentials, it can no longer download it's initial definition update. You'll need to install it manually. You can download them from the Legacy Update website.
Windows Live Essentials
The version of Windows Live Essentials that Legacy Update will try to install is the original one from Windows Update, which tries to download the latest version of the installer that has been removed. Instead, you'll want to run the offline version of the installer, also available on the Legacy Update website.
